Online Counseling Is New At LBCC!   "Get Smart, Get Connected"

Welcome To Online Counseling

Online counseling is a flexible way for you to access counselors when it is convenient for you.  Please read the information below pertaining to Online Counseling Terms used in the site, and important information about ways to protect your Privacy.

TERMS

Quick Questions:   If you have general questions that do not require the reviewing of your records/history, then click the Quick Question button on our home page.  Be sure to read the instructions as you go through the process of asking a quick question.  You will be asked to remember your Hot Topic ID number so that you will be able to find the counselor's response on the Hot Topics page.

Hot Topics:   Hot Topics is another name for FAQ - except these are dynamic and current questions asked by students/potential students.  We call them Hot Topics because they are concerns that are being asked now!  Take note of the expiration dates and any Special Programs attached to the counselors' responses.

Detailed Questions:   If your questions are specific to your records/ history, and you are an LBCC student, click on the Detailed Question button on our home page.  You will be asked to read/understand and agree to the terms and conditions of detailed online counseling.   Next, you will set-up an Account so that you will be able to login to your portal in the future.  Every time you want to post a detailed question, or read the detailed counselor reply, you will need to login.

Account:   To access detailed questions, each student needs to set up a unique account.  Select a Username, Password, and answer each field, then click "Create Account."

Username:  To create your username, you may type in anything in the text box. Whatever you choose needs to be easy for your to remember. Do not share your username with anyone.

Password:   Same as above, but remember:  whatever you choose needs to be easy for your to remember.   Do not share your password with anyone.

Update Account:  Click on this button if you want to update your educational objective, change your password, change your email, or change your security question and answer.

Topic ID #:  When you submit a detailed question, you will receive an email notification with a Topic ID # which is a unique identifier for your question.  To retrieve the reply from the counselor, login to your portal from the Home page and click on "You Have A New Message."
Forgot Password:  In the event that you forget your password, we do offer a means to retrieve it. Go to the Home page, click on "Ask A Question" then "Forgot Password" in the login portal.  You will be prompted to provide us with personal information.  Once this is verified as accurate, we will email you with your username/password.  If others have access to your email account, you may want to delete this message immediately upon reading it from your email.

PRIVACY

Due to the nature of cyber-space, with detailed online counseling, we cannot guarantee 100% security.  You must take precautions to help the site be the most secure for you, such as the following:

Do not share your username/password with anyone.   Once another person has this information, they may access your portal - they could read your counselor sessions, submit questions as if they were you, or delete the sessions from your portal without your knowing.

Be sure to logout after each session.   Once you leave the computer you are using, LOGOUT!  Why?  The next person to use the computer could have access to your portal. (There is a time-out function for your portal of twenty minutes.)

Change your password periodically.   You have the option to change your password by clicking on "Update Account" after you login to your portal.

You are accountable for what you do with your private information.  We have created as secure of a site as possible for online use, now it is up to you to protect your private information from others.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your information is kept to yourself.

Now, enjoy navigating the site, and send us your questions.  The Online Counselors are eager and ready to assist you!
